Engineering, fabrication and foundry
Make-to-order shops where every job has its own drawing, routing and machine hours, much of it sent out for job work, with scrap that is sold.
Who uses it: Machine shops, fabricators, pump and valve makers (as in Coimbatore), foundries and forging units.
Common problems without an ERP
- Nobody knows the real cost of a job until it is invoiced.
- Machine time lost is not recorded.
- Scrap is sold without a proper invoice.
What the company gains
- Routings and work centres show machine load.
- Time lost on each work order is recorded with a reason.
- Scrap sold on a GST invoice.
- Serial numbers for pumps and machines.
Numbers to watch
- Machine utilisation
- Jobs delivered on time
- Scrap and yield
- Cost per job against quote
Government rules to follow
- Job work
- CGST Act s.143 and Rule 55: challan for every outside process; inputs back within 1 year, capital goods within 3.
- Scrap
- Ferrous scrap (HSN 7204) is 18% GST, and TCS applies on its sale under the Income-tax Act, 2025.
- OSH Code
- Register within 60 days once you have 10 or more workers. A factory is 20+ workers with power or 40+ without.
- BIS steel
- Use only BIS-marked steel for products covered by the Steel Quality Control Orders.
